The health promotion model to be applied in the DPI project is Pender’s Health Promotion Model. It identifies health promotion as the process of empowering individuals and communities to make healthy lifestyle choices to improve their overall health and wellness. This is an important consideration as the DPI project seeks to enable people to increase control and improve their health(Butts & Rich, 2018). The rationale for applying Pender’s model is that it provides information for predicting and detecting significant factors related to public participation in health promotion activities. In using the model as a framework, the project design and direction are targeted at improving healthy lifestyles and detecting the key components of health-related behaviors within a population (Smith, 2020) .

The program evaluation model selected for the DPI project is the Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health presented by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The model notes that program evaluation should systematically improve and account for the program actions by involving accurate, ethical, feasible and useful procedures. It presents six steps for understanding the program context and improving how its evaluations are conceived and conducted. The six steps are: engaging stakeholders; describing the program; focus evaluation design; gathering credible design; justifying conclusions; and ensuring use and sharing lessons. The rationale for selecting the model is that it integrates the project evaluation with routine project operations with emphasis on practical, ongoing evaluations that involve the stakeholders. This makes the model a good driving force for planning an effective project, improving on the project, and demonstrating results of resource investments (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017).

I agree with you that Pender’s health promotion model empowers individuals and communities to make healthy lifestyle choices. These decisions aim at improving health and wellness. This health promotion model puts individuals and communities at the center of decision-making process. Healthcare workers and providers may guide people towards making sane lifestyle decisions (Gorbani et al., 2020). This is an important consideration as the DPI project seeks to enable people to increase control and improve their health. However, as people take control of their health, having reliable information is important. Pender’s health promotion model positions health professionals, individuals, and communities in making healthy lifestyle choices. The rationale for applying Pender’s model is that it provides information for predicting and detecting significant factors related to public participation in health promotion activities (Bahabadi et al., 2020). Public participation in health promotion increases the impact of healthcare decisions. Suitable health models understand that people are part of decision-making process. Therefore, these models specify the position of people and communities.

Health promotion theories set out to improve the well-being and self-sufficiency of individuals, families, organizations, and communities by successfully changing their behaviors at multi-levels. Health promotion takes a more comprehensive approach to promoting health by involving various players and focusing on multisectoral approaches. Health promotion has a much broader perspective, and it is tuned to respond to developments which have a direct or indirect bearing on health such as inequities, changes in the patterns of consumption, environments, cultural beliefs (M. Price et al, 2017).
They required a clear understanding of the targeted health behaviors, and the environmental context where the behaviors occur to successfully achieve desired outcomes. APRNs have a role in shaping public opinion and have many opportunities to improve population health through health promotion, education, and research (F.A. Jindani, et al. 2019).
A health promotion theory I would use for my project will be the Trauma-Informed Theory of Individual Health Behavior (TTB). Trauma is not limited to suffering violence; it includes witnessing violence as well as stigmatization because of gender, race, poverty, incarceration, or sexual orientation. The terms violence, trauma, abuse, and PTSD often are used interchangeably. One way to clarify these terms is to think of trauma as a response to violence or some other overwhelmingly negative experience (e.g., abuse). Trauma is both an event and a particular response to an event. Trauma affects people diversely given traumatic experiences vary and individual responses to trauma can range from minor disruptions in daily life to fully debilitating responses. TIP approaches focus on creating safety and trustworthiness within health- and social-care interactions by providing receptive and supportive services, systems, and methods of communication for people who have experienced trauma]. Importantly, TIP approaches do not directly treat trauma. Although TIP approaches are increasingly common in health care settings, they are infrequently utilized to deliver organized physical activity (L.A. Goldstein et al, 2017).

Most health promotion theories advocate for behavioral change. The transformation aims at generating healthy lifestyle choices. Health promotion takes a more comprehensive approach to promoting health by involving various players and focusing on multisectoral approaches (Stanulewicz et al., 2019). Every player in health promotion routines have different roles that collectively results to positive behavioral changes. Health promotion covers changes in the patterns of consumption, environments, and cultural beliefs. Therefore, health promotion is a broad concept with many theories. People can choose their suitable health promotion models based on their health issue. APRNs have a role in shaping public opinion and have many opportunities to improve population health through health promotion, education, and research (Jennings & Bamkole, 2019). Similarly, these nurses work together with their patients when making healthy lifestyle choices. The Trauma-Informed Theory of Individual Health Behavior (TTB) is a suitable health promotion model for people who have witnessed any form of violence.

I take care of elderly patients in a home care setting. It was noted that stroke is one of the leading causes of severe disability, mortality, and morbidity even though treatment is readily available. Grech, & Grech, (2021) in Applied Nursing Research conducted a study on the role of health promotion theories in Stroke Awareness and Education to provide an overview of health. Unfortunately, health promotion theories and their application to Stroke Awareness/ They concluded that education has major challenges due to the effectiveness of treatment depends heavily on the timely presentation to healthcare services. This is because many patients experiencing stroke symptoms do not seek medical assistance which leads to significant delays in timely intervention.

It has been predicted that stroke in the aging population worldwide will be the leading cause of lost quality of healthy life years. Prompt treatment of acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke has been shown to decrease mortality and improve the quality of life of affected patients. Grech, & Grech, (2021) stated that the mainstay of treatment was conservative and the ability to reduce the chance of further strokes. The medical world has experienced an overhaul in stroke treatment over the past three decades. It explores the main health promotion theories related to this problematic health behavior in relation to stroke. With the introduction of intravenous t-PA in 1995 and mechanical thrombectomy in 2015, therapy shifted from reducing mortality to improving the quality of life of affected individuals after recovery from stroke. Yang, et al., (2022) analyzed exercise behavior using the Theory of Planned health promotion behavior in older adults who regularly participated in exercise courses in an elderly community care center. It was noted that the community health exercise courses are an effective strategy to maintain regular exercise behavior of older adults and this can be used for patients recovering from a stroke

MARGARET I agree with you that health promotion theories in Stroke Awareness and Education provides detailed information about stroke. The information can be shared among health professionals. Similarly, stroke awareness and education can be used to inform and guide individuals and communities. Stroke as the leading causes of severe disability, mortality and morbidity requires collective intervention efforts. Therefore, health promotion should empower people and their communities (Van den Broucke, 2020). However, education has received many criticism due to the effectiveness of treatment that depends heavily on the timely presentation to healthcare services. Many patients experiencing stroke symptoms may not have time to seek medical assistance through education. Thus, healthcare workers may use different strategies to inform these patients about the complication and their roles in the intervention process (FitzPatrick, 2019). The exposure of the aging population to various health complications can attract health professionals. Some healthcare workers may have their valid reasons to dedicate their work to handling aged people.
