Developing future nurse leaders is important. All nurses from those providing direct care to those in top management positions, including those in Advanced Practice Nursing roles, need powerful leadership skills.

The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with the opportunity to memorialize their perspectives on nursing leadership based upon the content they have learned from this course.  Please write a one and one half (1 1/2)  page paper responding to the statement: “My vision of a nurse leader is…”. In this paper identify the three (3) most important attributes of a nurse leader from your perspective.  Support your discussions and conclusions with evidence from literature.

 

Please consider the following

A. Based upon the content of the course, what in your opinion, are the three most important attributes of highly effective nursing leaders?

B. Remember there are four (4) references required for this paper, you may want to ensure each attribute you discuss is supported by at least one reference.

Writing Guidelines

1. Length: 1.5 page maximum (does not include the title and reference pages).

2. There is a minimum of four (4) recent references required for this paper.

a. All references should be dated, unless the date is not available and source is a widely recognized, authoritative website (e.g. CDC, CMS.gov, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Joint Commission HHS.gov, etc.).

b. The references must be from evidence-based and/or peer-reviewed sources and used to support your ideas and responses.

3. Format: APA 6th Edition. Be sure to follow APA formatting guidelines for your paper.

4. Since there is generally a very limited use of direct quotes in scholarly and scientific literature, the use of direct quotes is discouraged for papers in this course.  If you do use direct quotes, there should be no more than one (1) in the entire paper. They should be very limited in length, generally a sentence or less. In addition, whenever used, you must explain how the quote is relevant to the point you are making in the paper.

5. Write the paper based on the assumption that the reader knows nothing about the topic or purpose of your paper, as you would if you were preparing a manuscript for publication.  This paper may be written in first person.
