Other Classifications:

  • By purpose: incremental and sunk costs
  • By payers: private and social costs
  • By variability: fixed and variable costs

Incremental costs are the changes encountered in future costs when health care facilities make certain decisions. For example, deciding to expand their scope of service will be associated with some cost (incremental). Redish et al. (2022) described sunk costs are charges/payments that cannot be recovered, such as research and advertisement costs. Payer-based costs include private and social costs. Private cost is what is incurred when an individual consumes or produces something, while social cost is incurred by the entire society, such as after policy changes. Variability-based costs include fixed and variable costs. Fixed costs remain constant as the volume of services offered changes. Variable costs vary with the output.

Hi Chante. Thanks for sharing. I agree. Nurse leaders lead the practice change and serve as role models to others. Nowadays, nurse leaders take more proactive roles, responsibility, and accountability. Earning an MSN in Leadership can help and contribute to improving healthcare quality. The rapidly changing, complex health and healthcare system requires nurse leaders with the skill, competence, and confidence to address health issues as it poses challenges in delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality patient care. According to Carson et al. (2023), masters-prepared nurses are strong clinical leaders who can lead practice change and improve patient outcomes, workplace culture, and staff retention. Nurse leaders problem-solve, decision-making, advocate, coordinate, do analytical thinking, empower, and collaborate (Carson et al., 2023). Nurse leaders transform care to meet the demands of the healthcare system. The focus of nursing is to promote health equity. Strengthening nursing education by preparing nurses to act now, supporting and mentoring nurses to continue to learn, invest in their education, and be future leaders. As stated by Carson et al. (2023), master’s degree levels have a wide variety of programs and modes of leadership education. Indeed, the nursing profession must continue to produce natural leaders. Pursuing a Masters’s degree can help nurses take up higher-level leadership to take action and advocate for quality health at every level and across all settings. Nurse leaders inspire, motivate, and influence others to achieve a common goal (Carson et al., 2023). Nurse leaders provide the vision, skills, and tools to promote health and positively impact patient outcomes. A nurse leader who uses a transformational leadership style knows how to value others, motivates nurses to take ownership, sets goals, can positively influence, engage, and collaborate with others, are better able to retain and provide job satisfaction to staff.

Layout 10.0% The layout is cluttered, confusing, and does not use spacing, headings, and subheadings to enhance the readability. The text is extremely difficult to read with long blocks of text, small point size for fonts, and inappropriate contrasting colors. Poor use of headings, subheadings, indentations, or bold formatting is evident. The layout shows some structure, but appears cluttered and busy or distracting with large gaps of white space or a distracting background. Overall readability is difficult due to lengthy paragraphs, too many different fonts, dark or busy background, overuse of bold, or lack of appropriate indentations of text. The writer uses a variety of sentence constructions, figures of speech, and word choice in distinctive and creative ways that are appropriate to purpose, discipline, and scope.

Mechanics of Writing (includes spelling, punctuation, grammar, language use) 5.0% Slide errors are pervasive enough that they impede communication of meaning.
